The Loch Lake trail was a beautiful, light-moderately trafficked hike to a lake surrounded by mountain peaks. The trail level is moderate, and is about 6 miles long. The elevation gain is 1,100 ft.
The Sky Pond trail, which follows the same starting trail as Loch Lake, is a more challenging add on to the Loch Lake hike. This trail is difficult, with steep elevation gain in the additional 1.4 miles from the lake (total of 8.4 miles round trip with Loch Lake Trail). The elevation gain is about 700 ft, making the total with Loch Lake 1,800 ft.
These out and back trails are easily accessed through the Glacier Gorge Trailhead parking lot.
Rocky Mountain National park has SO many trails. But if you're going, you should make Emerald Lake Trail a priority!
It's a bit of a drive to the park, and you have to pay an entry fee, but there are so many trails, so much beauty, and its well worth it. Paying a small fee to see and experience such beauty is a no-brainer. If you go with friends or family, it cuts the cost and makes for an even better time.
